Blog Purpose
“Pain Perdu” means “lost bread" in French and refers to "French Toast." This is a way to repurpose and embellish bread that would otherwise grow stale and be discarded, thereby transforming it into a delicious and even elegant new product.

Similarly, the purposes of this blog are to record and preserve travel memories and share experiences along with thoughtful and contextual commentary so others may give them a “second life.” There is no commercial facet of this blog although it gives credit where credit is due. For many years, I have written travel accounts shared with family members and this blog opens that door to a wider public. Many of these travels have been to France and Europe but not exclusively, and the scope of the blog will eventually extend beyond those regions, travel and song, just as “pain perdu” finds diverse incarnations.

The first posts were “A Visit to The Périgord” and “Salut Paris!”--two trips made in the summer of 2025. Future posts will emerge episodically from travels, but also from other experiences including the evolution of my website dedicated to French "chanson."

Travel opens minds. Blogs pay it forward.
